Kimberly Israel, ASI memberProfessional indexing for trade and academic books[email protected]
I provide back-of-the-book indexes for trade and academic books. My interests are broad and include nature, ecology, environmental sustainability, evolution, neurodivergence, psychology (especially around learning, perception, behavior, and personality), religion/philosophy/spirituality, linguistics, arts and crafts, big ideas, and in-depth examination of everyday objects and experiences.Naturally, I'd be happiest indexing books about those topics, but I love learning about new fields as well, so please don't hesitate to contact me even if your project doesn't fit within those categories! Please contact me for a quote. Rates are typically $3-5 per indexable page, depending on content density and complexity. I'll need to review a sample chapter to set a rate for your project.[email protected]
When I was 3, I learned to read.
When I was 4, I sobbed because I couldn't know everything.
When I was 5, I started making lists of anything and everything.
Basically, I was born to index, but it took me 45 years to figure it out!I hold an M.S. from the Plant Ecology Lab at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and a B.A. in psychology from Case Western Reserve University. I also took some graduate psychology courses through Atlantic University, and long ago I was certified in secondary science education through North Carolina State University.Past employers include Duke University, the NC Natural Heritage Program, NC State Parks, and the USDA. I also freelance with American Journal Experts, editing research manuscripts and writing text for short videos.[email protected]
Training: I'm currently working through the ASI training course and have submitted the exam for the first of four modules.Upcoming work: Index for trade nonfiction book in the science and society field (work to begin when I receive proofs)Practice indexes: I hone my skills by creating indexes for books that were published without. Sample pages available upon request. (At the moment, my first practice index is still in the editing phase, so samples would be for general illustrative purposes only).[email protected]
